Frankfield’s narrow win in Jimmy Bruen Shield – Sat 12th May

0

Skibbereen lost 3/2 to Frankfield on Saturday afternoon in the Jimmy Bruen Shield South Munster qualifiers at Blarney Golf Club. Alan Byrne and Steve Rayner won 2/1 and Michael Hurley and Donald McCarthy won 5/4 to give Skibb a early lead after Donnachadh Crowley and John McNamara had lost the first match.

A tense finish was set up when John O’Driscoll and Darren O’Brien levelled their match on the 17th and Paudie Nolan and David Ring birdied the 16th to be only one down with two to play. Unfortunately both Skibb pairs lost on the 18th hole to hand Frankfield the narrowest of wins.

Club captain Alan Byrne thanked both teams for a great match and wished Frankfield the best in the next round.

By the end of Sunday 13th May, two clubs qualified in the South Munster section, Douglas and Blarney, to go on to the area final on Wednesday 30th May at 3pm at Fota Island Golf Club.
