Senior Mens’ Results

Tuesday’s 14 hole 3 ball better ball competition was sponsored by Richard Delahunty. With only 22 taking part, due to the call of the Bantry Open, a couple of “Ghosts” were needed to make the numbers right; Peter Costelloe and his alter ego took full advantage of this coming both second and third. The results were: – First, Joe Connolly, Jim O’Brien and Stan Rispin, 35 points. Second, Peter Costelloe, Dan McCarthy, and Robin Johnson, 34 points and third after a count back, Peter again, this time with James DeCourcey, Bob Whooley.
Next Tuesday, the team, as defending champions, journey to Glengarriff for the first round of the 2012 Jack Flynn Tournament. Whilst for the remainder Jim O’Brien will sponsor the weekly competition at Skibbereen. Looking further ahead there is a day out at Castlemartyr on Monday 28th May; the Tee is booked for 11.00 a.m.

Deprived of their weekly fix last week, members turned out in force on Tuesday morning for Pat Connolly’s 14 hole 3 ball better ball competition; obviously Met Eireann has an audience. Conditions were much improved on recent weeks and brought out the best in Jim Linnane, Malcolm Cochrane and John McDonnell, who won with a superb 39 points. George Salter-Townshend, Joe Connolly and Pat McCormack, 37 points, came second, followed in third place, after a count back, by Pat McClearn, John Walsh and Nick Hilliard with 36 points.

Next week, there will be a competition as usual on Tuesday morning and for those wanting a double helping, Bantry are holding an Open Day. Members wishing to travel should either contact the captain or alternatively they can book a tee time by telephoning Bantry direct on 027 50579.

Monday’s trip to Farrangalway arranged with the help of Pat O’Driscoll proved a great success; 18 members made the journey to the Kinsale course and enjoyed a great days’ golf. Jim Linnane, Pat White and Kevin Barry took the prize and were followed in second place by Geoff Wycherley, Charlie Poillot and Steve Rourke. Leo Werner, Pat Kirwan and Seamus O’Mahony came third.

Tuesday brought the annual Ted Cannon Perpetual Trophy, a singles tournament attracting an entry of 31, which was played alongside the weekly competition sponsored by Jim Linnane. This year Ted’s Cup went to Liam Weadick with 32 points. Liam was 1 ahead of Pat Kirwan and James DeCourcey, second and third respectively both on 31 points. The weekly competition was won by Liam Weadick, Frank Long and Jim Linnane, 41 points. Michael Sullivan, Tom Ryan and Joe Connolly, 39 points, came second. Pat Kirwan, Nick Hillard and Seamus O’Mahony, a further 2 points behind on 37, were third. Next Tuesday’s sponsor is Pat Connolly: draw 9.30am.

Senior Mens’ Results Tues 17th April sponsored by Robin Johnson

Whilst Tuesday’s April showers had an impact on the attendance, Robin Johnson’s competition proved a very exciting affair. As with the Grand National at the weekend there was a photo-finish; a count back to non-equestrians. Both John McDonnell’s team of Brendan O’Rourke and James DeCourcey and Liam Cotter’s of Malcolm Cochrane and Robin Johnson scored 39, however John’s team proved their mettle and won by a head. Dan McCarthy, Finbarr Williams and Pat Dwyer, 36 points, came third.

The tee off at Farrangalway next Monday is booked for 11.00 a.m. so members are asked to make an early start. On Tuesday there is the Ted Cannon Perpetual Trophy, which is being played for alongside the usual team competition; draw 9.30 a.m.

Senior Mens’ Results – Easter Open Day

The car park was full to overflowing on Tuesday morning for the Seniors’ Easter Open with entrants travelling from all corners of the county to take part. The competition was divided into two age related sections; the mature and the more mature.

In the first group Paudie O’Se took the prize with a score of 37 points followed by Fachtna McCarthy, 36 points, in second place. Liam Weadick, 34 points, came third. The second grouping proved highly competitive and needed a count back to decide the winner. Vincent O’Farrell edged ahead from Brian FitzSimons on the back 9, both having 39 points. Pat Connolly, 37 points, came third.

Over the weekend the Seniors lost by 3 points to the Juveniles in the Club Inter Section competition, the Men were third and the Ladies fourth.

There are a busy few weeks ahead. Next Tuesday Robin Johnson is the sponsor; draw 9.30.a.m. On Monday 23rd April there is a day out at Farrangalway, the Tee is booked for 11.00 a.m.; members wishing to travel should contact Liam Ennis as soon as possible. Finally on Tuesday 24th April the Ted Cannon Perpetual Trophy competition will be held; being the first major of the season a large entry is expected.
