McEvoy Shield 2004

Skibbereen wins McEvoy Shield 2004!

Skibbereen regained the McEvoy Shield, last won in 1999, with a fantastic performance in Skibbereen on Saturday. Each of the Skibbereen pairings recorded scores of over 40 points for team total of 168 which was good enough to take the title from Macroom who posted a 163 total.

Dick Roycroft along with fellow selectors Michael Collins and Pat Calnan were delighted with the victory and there were scenes of great jubilation when captain Michael Kehily accepted the Shield from GUI official Michael Minihan. The Captain acknowledged a tremendous team performance particularly with so many new players involved in an inter club competition for the first time. Michael expressed his hope that this great victory would serve as a shining example to other representative teams in their efforts to capture inter club honours.
