Winner Best Gross U13 Section — Munster Boys U15 Amateur Open Championship

Playing off 12 handicap, Kieran Lynch carded a magnificent 78 (+6) to win the Best Gross in the U13 section of the Munster Boys U15 Amateur Open Championship at Tipperary Golf Club (27th June). His 78 was only 5 shots off the eventual winner Craig Cahill of Navan who shot 73. This is a terrific performance for this 12 year old who has a further 3 years eligibility in this tournament. Well done Kieran!

Skibbereen win McEvoy Shield

There were joyous scenes on Saturday at Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Club as the McEvoy Shield was won impressively by Skibbereen. An elated team captain, Michael Collins, spoke highly of his team who performed so heroically and whose winning total of 155 points was 9 points better than second placed Lee Valley, with Coosheen a further 3 points back in third. A total of 13 clubs took part this year and all 130 competitors battled manfully in difficult conditions and despite some torrential downpours the condition of the course was first class throughout.

Derry Browne and Diarmuid Hayes gelled superbly to record 45 points and were closely followed by Alan Swanton and Sean Creedon who shot 44 points. Club Captain Liam Quirke was obviously delighted with the victory and paid tribute to Michael Collins and Dick Roycroft for their hard work in bringing the team together and making this victory possible. He also thanked all the club members, caddies and supporters for their contribution to a memorable day. The team was Brian Fitzsimons, Stan Rispin, Robert Salter-Townsend, Michael Cochrane, John Collins, Dan Hourihane, Derry Browne, Diarmuid Hayes, Alan Swanton and Sean Creedon.
